Mine was only ~$1600 so my guess is it's more likely that it's based on links coming into and going out of your blog.
Hey, BlogShares provided no end of amusement for about a year, so I'm not all that surprised people are getting a lot of mileage out of this one.
Unsurprisingly mine is worth a big fat nothing too. I agree that it's most likely to be based on incoming/outgoing links as I barely feature on Technorati and yet I get loads of hits from search engine results.
