I got tired

I got tired - photo by Elisa VenturI have been blogging here for the last 20 years. Every Tuesday and Thursday, quite consistently, for two decades. But last year, without planning it, I got tired and stopped. Not sure why. It didn't correspond with any life events. Nothing interesting or notable happened. I just stopped.

I did find joy on TikTok and amassed a small group of like-minded followers there. I enjoy my YouTube as well, and my weekly podcast is going strong with nearly 900 (!) episodes of interviews with cool people. I've also recently started posting on Mastodon (a fediverse (federated universe)) Twitter alternative that uses the ActivityPub web standard. I see that Mark Downie has been looking at ActivityPub as well for DasBlog (the blog engine that powers this blog) so I need to spend sometime with Mark soon.

Being consistent is a hard thing, and I think I did a good job. I gave many talks over many years about Personal Productivity but I always mentioned doing what "feeds your spirit." For a minute here the blog took a backseat, and that's OK. I filled that (spare) time with family time, personal projects, writing more code, 3d printing, games, taekwondo, and a ton of other things.

Going forward I will continue to write and share across a number of platforms, but it will continue to start here as it's super important to Own Your Words. Keep taking snapshots and backups of your keystrokes as you never know when your chosen platform might change or go away entirely.

I'm still here. I hope you are too! I will see you soon.

I stopped blogging around the same time, without planning to. Just… (waves vaguely around) things were too much.

Good luck and best wishes in everything you do Scott.

Always enlightening to read your blog!

Always been an avid reader of your blog. You’re actually one of the reasons why I started blogging many years ago.

Keep owning your words! :-)

Welcome back, Sir !

I've been following on Youtube and Twitter for over 3 years. I'm not sure if I can claim I'm a fan of you. Your contents actually inspire me a lot. They also help me get better everyday. I'm thankful for that. Please keep doing your great jobs, I believe you'll help a lot of people like me.

Thank you.

Do the things which you enjoy most, which give you energy.
Don't do anything which pulls energy from you.

Glad to have you back. Plan on doing the same with my blog too!

Welcome back Scott! It's good to take a break. I'm glad you're back and I'm one of your followers in TikTok.

Let's see how things go in 2023!

I've checked that my RSS feed link wasn't broken several times. :)

Great to see you back!

Hi Scott,
there is one thing I like about Mastodon that conventional blogs don't provide.
The star (like) button.
I tend to use it to express support and understanding in cases where I don't have a lot of additional things to say.
I just want you to know that I can very much relate to this post and that I really appreciate your blog which, whenever it appears in my search results after searching for a topic (which happens more often than you might expect), is my first choice.
I can't remember ever having been disappointed by what I found.
Thank you!

So happy to have you back!

You've been missed. You are appreciated!

So, does Mastodon have an RSS feed? I had to use an aggregator RSS feed for twitter. I'm not sure why we have all these different websites when RSS works just fine and comments on posts works just fine. Follow who you want with RSS everything is golden.

I think you're spreading yourself thin by being on many different platforms that you ignored your blog. That's where I used to follow you and leave comments. For .NET nd Microsoft. Now your topics are all over the place. I follow people who specialize in certain technologies and who mostly about what they know instead of being too generalized.

Great that you will keep on writing here!

you're such an inspiration! take care and have fun

Hi Scott! I've been reading your blog since 2009 when I was working in the .NET universe. Then in 2012 I became a type 1 diabetic and you helped me a ton! I've been reading your blog ever since, but usually inside my RSS reader, so I don't show up in your analytics but wanted to let you know that I'm here and I'm grateful for all your content.

Hey Scott, I've been around for quite a long time. You're fully cemented in my Feedly RSS reader, and not going anywhere. Looking forward to your words, I've learned a lot from you in the past, and I enjoy reading your thoughts. Don't worry about coming, going, you do what is right for you and your family - that's what is important in life.

Can’t remember when I first added this site to my “weekly check” list … but have been waiting for this post for a year now!

Welcome back. Only good things!

Hi Scott, I've actually always wondered how you juggle so many things. I'm already very satisfied if I manage to write a blog article every few weeks - and I don't do a podcast on top of that like you do.
And even if you write an article on "I got tired", I'll find something new in it: I hadn't heard of the .NET Core implementation of DasBlog by Mark Downie. Thanks for this tip.

Hi Scott, I'm sure I'm also not the only one that's looking for that list of wonderful things email! :) I hate to say it, but I had to find out about ChatGPT from someone else and feel like that's totally the kind of thing that would have made it into your newsletter.

First thing you post is a new image of yourself.

Ah ah! he's had a sex change -)

I had been wondering about the lack of the activity on this blog which was one of my regular reads. Thanks for the explanation, and it’s good to see you back.

You may have stopped writing on this site but your inspiration still lives on… you’ve inspired so many people throughout the years in so many positive ways. Thank you for sharing your passion with the world. It’s a better place because of people like you!

I was wasting time clicking through waybackmachine of TechEdBloggers (one of my first community projects). I can't find any other blog where the permalinks from 2003 still work. Twenty years of blogging is impressive, but not losing any of the content or links along the way is unbelievable! :)

Checking here from time to time, missed it. So it's nice to read your words again.

Glad to see you back here. I have read your blog for a better part of my career and learned a lot. For some reason, videos and podcasts does not appeal to me as much as reading the words (blog posts, articles, eBooks, paper books). Reading your blog was part of weekly routine. Last time when I asked, you said that you were taking a break and I stopped checking your blog every week. Today, saw your post on Linkedin, came here and happy to see a new beginning for 2023. Will add this back to my weekly routine.
